Download YouTube videos as MP3 files on your iPad using Safari. Manage your downloads with the Files app and import tracks into Apple Music.
The iPad offers a unique combination of portability and capability that makes it ideal for downloading and enjoying music. With its larger screen, you can comfortably browse YouTube, convert videos with Down2MP3, and manage your downloads all in one device. Safari on iPad has become increasingly powerful, and with iPadOS 17 and later, file downloads work seamlessly. The Files app provides desktop-class file management, and the integration with Apple Music means your downloaded MP3s can become part of your regular listening rotation effortlessly.
Open Safari on your iPad and go to Down2MP3.com. You can use Split View or Slide Over to keep YouTube open on one side while converting on the other — a feature unique to iPad. Copy the video URL from YouTube and paste it into the Down2MP3 converter, then tap the convert button. Once the conversion is complete, tap the download link. Safari will show a download prompt — tap "Download" to confirm. You can track the progress by tapping the download icon next to the address bar. When finished, the MP3 file is saved to your Files app and ready to play.
Open the Files app on your iPad to find your downloaded MP3. Navigate to "On My iPad" then "Downloads" to see your files. The Files app supports creating folders, so you can organize your music by creating an "MP3" or "Music" folder and moving your downloads there. The iPad Files app also supports tags — you can tag your MP3 files with colors or custom labels for quick filtering. Long-press a file to access options like Move, Copy, Rename, and Share. If you use iCloud Drive, you can move files there to access them across all your Apple devices.
To import your downloaded MP3 into Apple Music on iPad, open the Files app, find your MP3, tap and hold it, then select "Share" and choose "Save to Music" (or open it with the Music app). The track will appear in your Apple Music library under "Recently Added." Once imported, the MP3 behaves like any other track in Apple Music. You can add it to playlists, use it with the sleep timer, or even have Siri play it by name. If iCloud Music Library is enabled, the song will sync to your iPhone and Mac as well, creating a unified listening experience across devices.
Take advantage of the iPad's multitasking features when downloading music. Use Split View to have YouTube and Down2MP3 open side by side, making it easy to copy URLs between them. On iPad Pro and Air models, Stage Manager gives you even more flexibility with multiple overlapping windows. If Safari is not downloading files, check Settings > Apps > Safari > Downloads and make sure the download location is set correctly. Also, ensure you have enough free storage by going to Settings > General > iPad Storage. For the best audio experience, connect your iPad to external speakers, AirPods, or HomePod via AirPlay to enjoy your downloaded music with high-quality sound.
